Intern Veterinarian Substitute (Raahe) - Kalajoen kaupunki - Kalajoki, Finland

The City of Kalajoki is seeking a temporary Intern Veterinarian for the joint environmental health service area. The position is located in the northern part of the joint service area, covering the emergency service areas of Raahe, Siikajoki, and Pyhäjoki municipalities. The start date is August 17, 2026, or as agreed, and the position lasts until December 31, 2026. Shorter-term placements are also possible. Kalajoki is the responsible municipality and provides veterinary services in the areas of Raahe, Kalajoki, Merijärvi, Pyhäjoki, and Siikajoki. The veterinary service employs a total of 8 intern veterinarians, 2 control veterinarians, and 2 animal caretakers. The services are divided into two regions: the northern region includes Raahe, Siikajoki, and Pyhäjoki; the southern region includes Kalajoki and Merijärvi. The available position is based at the Raahe joint clinic. The client base in the area is primarily small animals, but large animals are also treated. Small animal care is mainly provided at the Raahe joint clinic, which has well-equipped facilities including four treatment rooms, a laboratory, an operating room, inhalation anesthesia, an X-ray room, a dental care room, and equipment sterilization facilities. There is also a garage with charging station for two cars, an on-call apartment, and good social facilities. The Siikajoki clinic has basic equipment, social facilities, a garage, and an on-call apartment. The position includes on-call duties with increased compensation. On-call shifts are variable, often quiet, and weekends can be shared if needed. The on-call area includes Raahe, Siikajoki, and Pyhäjoki. Some on-call duties are performed by the private sector. Qualifications include a degree as a licensed veterinarian in Finland or temporary practicing rights granted by the Food Authority. The position requires a valid B driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and good spoken and written Finnish language skills. The gross salary is €3,183.13 per month.
