Job Description
The education department of Kotka is hiring a temporary full-time high school teacher, teaching Swedish and Russian, for the period from August 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027. The temporary position is located at Karhula High School. Karhula High School operates in shared premises with the Karhula School from fall 2025 to fall 2027, until the new school center is completed. The school has approximately 380 students. We are seeking a teacher to complement the talented, enthusiastic, innovative, development-oriented, and collaborative staff at Karhula High School. The ideal candidate should have good subject knowledge, strong teaching and teamwork skills, versatile IT skills, and a desire to develop and expand their expertise. In addition to subject mastery, willingness to develop and implement interdisciplinary collaboration based on the new curriculum and readiness for higher education and workplace cooperation are valued. Experience with digital learning environments and materials, as well as current knowledge of digital matriculation exams, are considered advantages. Additional minors and the ability to teach English are also beneficial. Qualifications are based on the decree on the qualifications of education personnel no. 986/98. Certificates demonstrating qualifications will be checked during the interview if applicable. The temporary position includes a three (3) month probation period. Salary is determined according to the municipal collective agreement for education. The monthly salary for a qualified teacher in Kotka education is €3,671.39 before overtime and annual allowances. The selected candidate must provide a satisfactory health statement and a criminal background check related to work with children before the appointment is confirmed.
