Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic special education teacher to join our team at Kauniainen Comprehensive School, supporting students' overall learning, growth, and well-being, and developing operational models. The position is temporary, from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The selected candidate will work at Kasavuori teaching point in a newly established challenging support group (max 8 students) for grades 7-9. The role requires initiative, solution-orientedness, the ability to collaborate across disciplines with teachers, student welfare staff, families, principals, and various networks, as well as flexibility and enthusiasm for developing support models across basic education. The role may also include providing group-specific support in general education classes. Student-centeredness and the well-being of all members of the school community, along with respectful and friendly interactions, are important to us. We aim to support each student's growth, learning, and well-being so that they have strong roots and wings for a good life. We strongly implement co-teaching in learning support. Our school also offers Swedish immersion instruction and inclusive preparatory education. We have a second challenging support group for grades 1-6. Our school’s development themes include learning support and strengthening basic skills, well-being, language, cultural awareness, and building a sustainable future. All our teachers participate in grade-level and development teams. You will join a professional and community-oriented Finnish-language basic education special education team. Your work involves collaboration with other teachers, the school youth worker, student welfare staff, families, and various networks. The qualification requirement is the eligibility criteria set by the Decree on Qualifications for Teaching Staff (986/1998). Original certificates proving eligibility must be presented at the possible interview. If formally qualified applicants are unavailable, consideration may also be given to applicants without formal qualifications. We require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, excellent knowledge of current legislation on learning support, strong and diverse skills to teach students needing intensive support, and the ability to implement flexible learning support arrangements in basic education. A six (6) month probationary period applies to the appointment. The selected person must provide a criminal record extract concerning work with children and young people (504/2002) before starting employment. The appointment is conditional until the person has also confirmed in writing their acceptance of the position. Experience in multidisciplinary network collaboration in learning support arrangements, teaching students with significant support needs, developing learning support models, and a proactive work attitude are considered an advantage. Understanding of teaching and supporting neuropsychiatrically symptomatic students is valued.
