Job Description
We are seeking a school assistant for different operational areas in teaching, primarily at Hannunniitun School. The position begins on August 7, 2026, and is permanent. The contract will specify a weekly working hours of 30, which may be increased annually based on operational needs. Main duties and special features of the tasks: The placement group for the upcoming autumn will start its second school year. All students have individual needs, and the team members share responsibility for them. No one is designated as a personal guide for a specific child; instead, daily work tasks are rotated within the team. The teaching content areas include motor skills, social skills, cognitive skills, daily activities, language, and communication. Work tasks for all team members include bathroom assistance (including diaper changing), meal support, dressing and undressing assistance, and transition support. Working hours include school lessons, designated team time, and additional activities. Hannunniitun School has over 600 students and more than 100 staff members, combining general and special education. The school serves as a local school for residents and as a centralized school for students requiring special classes in Turku. Currently, the school operates in three units: Main school (grades 1-4), Kohmo (grades 1-2), and Halinen (grades 5-6). Support activities for children in special classes are organized at the main school and Halinen. Kohmo participates in general education activities for local students. The languages of instruction are Finnish and Finnish Sign Language. Knowledge of sign language or augmentative communication is not a requirement for the position. Qualifications include a suitable vocational qualification or previous school-level vocational qualification in the field, or a professional or special professional qualification. We expect that you: - Approach students as individuals and want to guide and support their growth - Are linguistically aware and consider students' language backgrounds - Have good cooperation and interaction skills - Are active and development-oriented team worker - Are willing to perform caregiving tasks Experience in teaching within operational areas and working with children or young people on the autism spectrum is considered an advantage.
