Job Description

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral researchers in mathematical inverse problems at the University of Helsinki. The positions are funded by the ERC advanced grant project InversePDE - Geometric Methods in Inverse Problems for Partial Differential Equations and the Centre of Excellence on Inverse Modelling and Imaging, led by Professor Matti Lassas. The positions are for around two years, ending in November 2028, with a possible extension to a third year. Starting date may be between August 1, 2026, and January 1, 2027. The positions include a 6-month trial period. The research focuses on inverse problems for PDEs and geometric inverse problems, aiming to develop algorithms based on machine learning, neural networks, and manifold learning techniques. The university promotes an inclusive environment and welcomes applicants of any gender, linguistic, or cultural background. Candidates should hold a relevant doctoral degree by the start date, with no more than five years since completion, excluding family leave. Excellent English communication skills are required. The salary is typically 3800-4000 euros/month, depending on qualifications and experience. The university offers comprehensive benefits including occupational health care, health insurance, sports facilities, and support for international employees. Applications should include a CV, cover letter, and references, submitted via the university’s recruitment system by June 15, 2026. For inquiries, contact Professor Matti Lassas at Matti.Lassas(at)helsinki.fi.
