Job Description
The Youth Services of the City of Kajaani are seeking a youth worker for a permanent position starting from 1.9.2026. Outreach youth work is aimed at 15-28-year-olds. The role of the outreach youth worker is to assist young people who are outside education or the labor market or otherwise need support to access the services they require. Outreach youth work is based on voluntariness, and building trust with young people is a significant part of the work. The job requires the ability to meet different young people and their life situations, good communication skills, flexibility, initiative, the ability to work independently, and experience in multidisciplinary networking. Work with young people includes individual guidance as well as community and social group activities that strengthen social cohesion. The work also involves some evening and weekend work. The position is mobile and requires a driver’s license. The outreach youth work area of Kajaani includes Kajaani itself, Paltamo, Ristijärvi, and Pyhäntä. Applicants must have a relevant higher education or secondary education degree and familiarity with youth work. Work experience with young people is appreciated. Salary according to KVTES, working hours 36.25 hours/week. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract and a substance abuse test certificate in accordance with the law (504/2002) before starting the position. A six-month probationary period applies. Priority in filling the position will be given to laid-off employees and those under work suspension within Kajaani city, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. The Education Sector is led by the Director of Education. It is divided into five result areas: early childhood education, basic education, vocational education, upper secondary education, and cultural and youth services. These include daycares, primary schools, vocational colleges, high schools, adult education centers, music schools, cultural centers, city theaters, museums, libraries, and youth services. You will do meaningful work together with multidisciplinary teams and develop services that support residents’ learning, participation, and well-being throughout life.
