Job Description

UNU Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) is dedicated to research, training, and education on digital technologies for sustainable development... Responsibilities: 1. Lead research focusing on the achievement of the following results: develop research programmes, manage a team of inter-disciplinary researchers, oversee budget and finance, mentor junior researchers, play a key role in Institutional events. 2. Partnerships and Resource Mobilization: lead resource mobilization strategies, establish partnerships with government, UN entities, private sector, NGOs, oversee MoU and agreement signing. 3. Professional and ethical standards: ensure Ethical Review Board (ERB) reviews, monitor research activities, publish in high quality academic journals, create policy briefs and UN reports. 4. Communicate research accomplishments at academic conferences and high-impact international venues. 5. Lead and oversee training or educational activities. Qualifications: PhD in computer science, information studies, human-computer interaction, data science, digital technology and ethics, economics, communication studies, development studies, computer-based modelling, computational social science or related field is required. Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Required: Doctoral degree with at least five (5) years of post-doctoral full-time, progressive experience in managing successful academic research programs, including managing teams of at least two (2) staff. Track record of excellent academic publications. Experience managing research operations (HR, finance, budgeting). Strong people management skills. The post is Macau-based. This is not a remote position. Remuneration: tax exempt compensation package including annual net salary, 30 days annual leave, dependency benefits, pension plan and health insurance scheme. Duration: full-time, fixed-term appointment. Initial appointment for one (1) year.

  • Experience managing research operations including human resources, finance and budgeting
  • Strong people management and supervision skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to reside full-time in Macau
