Job Description
We are seeking a specialist doctor for the Department of Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Line, at HUS Helsinki University Hospital, Spinal Cord Injury Center, for a permanent position. Start date 3 August 2026 or as agreed. The Rehabilitation Line of the Department of Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation includes Fysiatrics clinics, Spinal Cord Injury Center, and the Long-term Symptoms Rehabilitation Unit. The line also provides physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to various HUS units. It collaborates with HUS Assistive Devices Center and several specialized fields within HUS for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation planning. The Spinal Cord Injury Center functions as a coordinating unit for the health, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals with spinal cord injuries, focusing on post-acute symptoms. It comprises the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic and the Complex Rehabilitation Ward. The center serves the HUS and the well-being regions of South Finland and Helsinki. The Complex Rehabilitation Ward primarily provides post-acute rehabilitation for spinal cord injury patients but also offers multidisciplinary rehabilitation for other patients. Patients are referred directly from various units within our responsibility area, mainly trauma hospitals, equivalent units in other healthcare regions, or well-being region wards. The center is located in Helsinki on Nordenskiöldinkatu and will move to Jorvi Hospital on 1 October 2026. Jorvi offers extensive specialized and diagnostic services suitable for this work. The Complex Rehabilitation Ward at Jorvi will also treat other patient groups requiring complex rehabilitation. The center has important research, development, and educational roles. It monitors international research on spinal cord injuries and implements evidence-based treatments and rehabilitation methods suitable for the Finnish healthcare system. The unit is networked nationally and internationally. It also has a broad educational mission, including training for doctors, specialists, and other healthcare personnel. The specialist doctor will primarily work at the Complex Rehabilitation Ward and, if needed, at the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic. If a physiatrist is selected, they will also participate in patient care at physiatrics clinics. The role emphasizes clinical expertise, flexibility, teamwork, willingness to develop, and a positive attitude towards teaching. The candidate should have good ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience in treating and rehabilitating spinal cord injuries and working in a ward setting is considered an advantage.
