The Department of Education and Training of the City of Kerava is seeking a fixed-term special class teacher for the period from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The workplace is Kerava River School, a comprehensive school located in the scenic Keravanjoki Valley. The school is situated near the center of Kerava, in a quiet and natural area with good outdoor opportunities and excellent public transportation. Kerava River School is a new and versatile learning environment where functionality, pedagogical flexibility, and student well-being are central. Our facilities support various teaching solutions, and extensive sports areas promote active daily routines. Approximately 700 students attend Kerava River School, and our staff includes nearly one hundred professionals from different fields. We mainly operate as a three-stream primary school and a five-stream secondary school. Our team is motivated, collaborative, and genuinely supportive of each other. We develop our activities in teams and share expertise openly — work is not done alone. Internationalism is an important part of our school identity. We actively participate in Erasmus projects and have long-term partner school activities. Environmental education is visible in our daily life, for example through the Green Flag program. We are also involved in KiVakoulu and Verso activities, which strengthen community spirit and a safe environment. Small daily joys include a large coffee maker in the break room, and the employer provides coffee and tea for staff. What you will do with us We are looking for an enthusiastic, development-oriented, and cooperative special education professional. Your tasks include teaching flexible small groups for grades 1-3. You will be supported by classroom teachers, special education teachers, and a qualified student welfare team. Collaboration with the school's special education team and general education staff is close. How to succeed in the role The role requires good teamwork and interaction skills, classroom management skills, and the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching to effectively support educational and developmental goals. Experience in similar roles, familiarity with functional teaching methods and different learning environments, and good ICT skills are considered an advantage. Applicants should have a willingness and readiness to develop special education. Success in the role requires excellent oral and written Finnish language skills. Join us as a colleague and have the opportunity to influence the well-being of children in Kerava according to your strengths. In Kerava, you will find an eager and energetic team of professionals. Kerava is a small, yet vibrant city with a manageable environment and close cooperation. The city offers good conditions for education and development. Our core values are well-being, participation, and an interactive culture, along with the use of information and communication technology in learning. Qualifications are based on the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (986/1998). Salary and other terms of employment are determined according to OVTES. Higher salaries than those specified in OVTES are paid to qualified special education teachers in Kerava. The position is subject to a six-month probation period. The selected candidate must provide a criminal background check for working with children, issued under the Criminal Records Act (770/1993, section 6, subsection 2), before starting the position.
