The Kotka Education Department is seeking to fill a position for a basic school teacher, teaching student guidance, for a fixed term from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The first placement of the position is at Karhula School. Karhula School operates in three locations until the beginning of the fall semester 2027. The school has approximately 700 students in grades 6-9. In addition to general education groups, the school offers physical education and music-focused instruction, a flexible basic education group, and special classes. Karhula School is part of the national sports high school network. Sports class coaching is carried out together with the South Kymenlaakso Sports Academy (EKA) during school days. We are looking for an enthusiastic and development-oriented student guidance counselor with good collaboration skills, a student welfare and community-oriented approach, strong ICT skills, and a desire to learn new things. We value flexibility, initiative, the ability to work well with different people, and willingness to teach students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds. We expect the applicant to have diverse knowledge of further education opportunities and work-life requirements, as well as interest and professionalism in developing and implementing student guidance. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualification requirements for teaching staff (986/98). Certificates demonstrating qualifications will be checked during the possible interview. The selected candidate must, before the appointment is confirmed, provide an acceptable statement of health and a criminal background check related to work with children and young people (504/2002). A six (6) month probationary period applies to the position. Salary and working hours are determined according to the municipal collective agreement for the education sector. The teacher’s task-specific salary in Kotka Education Department is €3,748.87/month, excluding possible overtime and annual bonuses. The reason for the fixed-term appointment is the ongoing service network review and the reduction in the need for teaching staff. Applications are primarily submitted through the recruitment system.
