Job Description
The church's music work brings people together and creates space for meaningful experiences and the practice of spirituality through music. Hämeenlinna has a diverse music scene, and music is valued as a form of church life in the area. Our church community has many volunteers and choir members of different ages, with whom high-quality music work has been carried out for decades. We are seeking a professional in church music for the position who can generate, implement, and develop high-quality musical life in the congregation in collaboration with congregation members and staff. The applicant for the A-Cantor position will plan and develop music work as the leader of the church music team. The lead cantor acts as the direct supervisor of the cantors. The key responsibilities of the open cantor position include delivering high-quality worship music, overseeing music for church services, and leading and developing a versatile choir activity. The successful candidate must possess: - Versatile and high-quality musical skills - Ability to lead the congregation's music work in a multifaceted manner and integrate it into the overall strategy and mission of the church - Vision and ability to develop the church's music activities with the involvement of congregation members - Excellent communication and teamwork skills Qualifications for the position: - A degree at the highest level required for a cantor position (Level A) according to the decision of the Church Council (Church Regulations Collection No. 163) and the studies specified in §5. The degrees recognized according to previous decisions of the Church Council or the Bishop's Conference will be considered as per the decision published in §9, paragraph 3 of the regulation. - Excellent oral and written skills in Finnish and satisfactory understanding of Swedish. The candidate must be a confirmed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. - A medical certificate acceptable to the employer is required before taking up the position. The position has a six-month probation period. Suitability assessments may be used in the recruitment process. Salary: The salary for an A-Cantor is in accordance with the demanding group 602, with a minimum of €3,912.00 per month. Additional experience-based allowances may be paid. The position will be filled starting October 1, 2026, or by agreement.
