Job Description

The City of Porvoo's early childhood education services are seeking one temporary early childhood education teacher for a fixed-term employment from August 3, 2026, to May 31, 2027. The primary start location is Huhtinen Daycare. The new bilingual Huhtinen Daycare was opened in August 2025. The environment offers good outdoor and physical activity opportunities. We listen to children and ensure they are heard. Together with parents, we create a positive growth environment where the child's independence gradually increases, and they learn to consider others. The child is accepted as a valuable individual. The child's individuality is respected, and their strengths are emphasized to boost their self-confidence. Support is provided for the development of the child's personal qualities. There is room for discussions. The activities are based on children's interests. Play develops through children’s imagination. Every moment during the early childhood education day is meaningful. As an early childhood education teacher, you are responsible for the teaching, upbringing, and care of a child group and participate in the development of pedagogical practices across the entire unit. Together with your team, you plan, implement, evaluate, and develop the activities of the child group. You collaborate with the social pedagogue of early childhood education and the guardians of the children, and participate in ensuring children's participation in the group activities. The position requires: - Strong pedagogical expertise - Sensitive and respectful approach towards children and guardians - Teamwork skills - Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate your own and the team’s work - Readiness to lead a team and coordinate activities smoothly. Porvoo’s early childhood education offers a child-friendly environment that supports children’s growth and learning. We focus on diverse activity environments, quality facilities, and continuous development. Both language groups are supported equally. We provide regular training for staff and take care of working conditions. We encourage staff to pursue further education and develop their skills in early childhood education career paths. A comprehensive orientation program ensures a smooth start to work. Support is provided by the work community, supervisors, early childhood education specialists, and a special education teacher. Porvoo is piloting an assistant director model. The qualification requirement is compliance with the Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018). - Working hours: 38.25 hours/week. - Salary according to OVTES level pay scale. The salary for qualified applicants is between €3,030.80 and €3,172.38 per month. In addition, a qualification bonus of €15/month is paid. - Before appointment, the selected candidate must present a criminal record extract as per the law on background checks for persons working with children (504/2002) and a valid tuberculosis screening questionnaire as per section 55 of the Infectious Diseases Act. - The trial period is half of the employment period, but no more than 6 months.
