Job Description
The municipality of Askola is seeking a fixed-term early childhood educator for Puolukka Daycare from August 3, 2026, to July 31, 2027. Puolukka Daycare operates in Askola's church village, in cozy premises renovated in 2010. Our daycare has 34 places and functions as a sibling group with flexible opening hours from 5:00 to 22:00 according to family needs, including weekends. We can be seen exploring nearby forests, fields, parks, or meeting at the library. Are you excited about inquiry-based learning with children? Do you want to develop and implement your skills as a professional in education and upbringing? If yes, join us in Askola, in a nature-connected environment, to implement early childhood education that promotes children's participation. Our activities emphasize play and child-centeredness, supporting comprehensive learning and experiences. The early childhood educator participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating pedagogically focused care, upbringing, and education according to the early childhood education plan, the unit's operational plan, and the child's early childhood education plan, together with children, guardians, and staff. The educator may also be responsible for administering medication to children as needed. Goal-oriented and planned self-evaluation is part of improving the quality of early childhood education, teamwork, and the work community. We require compliance with the Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018) section 28, excellent communication skills, a flexible and positive attitude, and a solution-oriented work approach. Success in the role requires good oral and written Finnish skills. We especially value a desire to develop professionally, the ability to create a calm atmosphere in daily activities, and experience working with children. We expect you to be able to meet families and children individually and respectfully. We offer you the opportunity to influence the development and implementation of your work in a nature-connected environment. Extensive occupational health services are available. Salary and other employment terms are based on the municipal collective agreement (KVTES). The working hours are 38.25 hours per week, with a starting salary of €2,562.75 per month from August 1, 2026. The employment relationship includes a five (5) month probation period. Applications are submitted through the Kuntarekry electronic system (application key: 726959) by June 3, 2026, at 16:00. The selected candidate must submit an approved criminal record extract as required by law (Child Welfare Act 504/2002, section 6, subsection 2). The Infectious Diseases Act (§55) requires screening for tuberculosis risk before starting employment with preschool children. The screening is conducted using a questionnaire developed by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (questionnaire 1) and interpretation instructions: https://www.ttl.fi/teemat/tyoterveys/pandemiat-ja-epidemiat/tuberkuloosiin-liittyvat-terveystarkastukset We are guided by our municipal strategy goals—positivity, flexibility, sustainability, participation, safety, and courage.
