Electrical rail designer at Sweco Finland, hybrid work, Helsinki-area and other Finnish cities.

Original job description

Would you like to help design some of Finland’s most interesting rail and tram projects? We are seeking a person who wants to be part of projects that actually shape urban mobility and infrastructure—from mainline rail to tram networks in city centers and on international stages. You may be at the beginning of your career as an electrical rail designer who wants to develop under experienced colleagues, or an experienced designer seeking the next engaging project. As an expert in electrical rail design, you will work on rail and tram projects as part of a multidisciplinary project team. You will design systems for propulsion, feeding, and grounding in railway and tram environments, participate in the layout planning of electrical rail systems, and contribute to the design of structures like turnout arms, fixed contact lines, and cable portals. You will use and develop Sweco’s unique electrical rail design software and design methods, actively participate in team and project meetings, and produce high-quality drawings and technical documents that improve the performance and reliability of railway systems. You will contribute to continuous development of processes and design environments. Your team is part of the Infra and Traffic division, Electrical Engineering unit, with nearly 50 specialists in three teams. You will have support from colleagues both at home and at project offices, and through remote connections. We work in a hybrid model, combining remote and on-site work flexibly. Your workplace may be located in Helsinki, Riihimäki, Lahti, Oulu, Turku or Tampere. We also collaborate with Sweco colleagues from other countries. We expect you to hold a suitable electrical engineering degree (Diplomi-insinööri or AMK) and at least one year of experience in industrial or infrastructure electrical and automation solutions or railway/tram project design. Proficiency in design software and experience in CAD environments are valued. A good understanding of railway and tram systems helps, but other electrical design expertise and a willingness to learn about rail operations also support success. We value careful and high-quality work in creating plans and technical documents, the ability to work as part of a team, and clear communication with different stakeholders. We are looking for a person eager to learn continuously and to improve processes, who is proactive and ready to take on challenging and varied tasks. A team player with an understanding that a team is about helping and supporting others.
