The operations of the Fire Protection Fund are based on the Fire Protection Fund Act (306/2003). According to the law, in order to promote fire prevention and rescue activities, an annual fire protection fee must be paid on fire-insured movable and immovable property in Finland. The fees are allocated to a fire protection fund outside the state budget, which is managed and supervised by the Ministry of the Interior. The fund's board is responsible for the administration of the fund and the proper organization of its finances and activities. The Fire Protection Fund grants discretionary general and special grants for projects related to fire prevention and rescue activities, approximately 14 million euros annually. The expert's tasks include preparing, presenting, and implementing the fund's grant decisions. The expert is also responsible for communication related to the fund and monitoring completed and ongoing projects. Most of the fund's grant applications have moved to the Haeavustuksia.fi service. Additionally, the expert handles administrative tasks for the fund, such as assisting with meeting preparations, and other tasks assigned by the secretary general.
