Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic special class teacher to join our team at the Kauniainen comprehensive school. The role involves supporting students' holistic learning, growth, and well-being, and developing operational models. The position is temporary from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, based on completing a specific set of tasks. The role may also include implementing student-specific support in small group instruction. The selected candidate will work at the Kasavuori teaching point in a new demanding support group (max 8 students) for grades 7-9. The special education teacher will work as a partner in the role. The position requires initiative, solution-orientedness, the ability to collaborate across disciplines with teachers, student welfare staff, families, principals, and various networks, as well as flexibility and enthusiasm for developing support models across basic education. Student-centeredness and the well-being of all members of the school community, along with respectful and friendly interaction, are important to us. We aim to support each student's growth, learning, and well-being so that they have strong roots and wings for a good life. We strongly implement learning support through co-teaching. Our school also offers Swedish immersion teaching and inclusive preparatory education. There is also a second demanding support group for grades 1-6. Our school’s development themes include learning support, strengthening basic skills, well-being, language, cultural awareness, and building a sustainable future. All our teachers participate in grade-level and development teams. You will join a professional and community-oriented Finnish-language basic education special education team. Your work involves collaboration with other teachers, the school youth worker, student welfare staff, families, and various networks. The qualification requirement is compliance with the regulations on qualifications for education personnel (Decree 986/1998). Original certificates demonstrating qualification must be presented at the possible interview. If formally qualified applicants are unavailable, consideration may also be given to applicants without formal qualifications. We require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, excellent knowledge of current legislation on learning support, strong and diverse skills to teach students requiring demanding support, and the ability to implement flexible learning support arrangements in basic education. A six (6) month trial period applies to filling the position. The selected person must present a criminal record extract concerning work with children and young people (Act 504/2002) before starting employment. The appointment is conditional until the person has also confirmed in writing their acceptance of the position. Experience in multidisciplinary network cooperation in learning support arrangements, teaching students with significant support needs, developing learning support models, and a proactive work attitude are considered an advantage. Understanding neuropsychiatric students' teaching and interaction is valued.
