Job Description
Satafood Development Association ry is implementing diverse projects related to food systems, bio- and circular economy, and rural development, and offers expert services. We are seeking an expert for a fixed-term position until 2028 in the Pure Potato Chain project (80-100% work time). The project aims to prevent the spread of the potato cyst nematode and to enhance the quality and competitiveness of domestic potato production. The project develops practical methods for prevention and risk management in collaboration with farmers and potato chain actors. It is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and regional development centers of South Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia, Southwest Finland, and Central Finland. Start date to be agreed separately. As a project expert, you will be responsible for the practical implementation of project activities and participate in reporting and monitoring. The role emphasizes knowledge of primary production and working at its interfaces, ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information from various sources, and communicate it clearly to different target groups. Translating information into practical models and guidelines in collaboration with farmers and other chain actors is also key. The work includes event planning and execution, as well as coordination tasks related to the project. You will work closely with project partners and co-implementer Berner Ltd. experts and Satafood communication specialists, supported by experts from both organizations. You may be suitable if you have a relevant university degree (e.g., agronomist, agrologist, or other relevant education) or are nearing the completion of your studies. Good knowledge of plant production is required, with deeper expertise in potato production being a significant advantage. Success in the role requires a practical approach and the ability to see the big picture and apply knowledge in different situations. Organizational skills, as well as fluent communication and interaction skills across channels, are valued. Good language skills, especially in Swedish, and experience working on EU co-funded projects are considered assets. We also value initiative, flexibility, and a concise work style. We offer opportunities to develop your expertise as a potato industry specialist in diverse and interesting tasks within a broad network. The workplace is located in Huittinen, but the work location can be agreed upon. Flexible working arrangements and remote work options are available. The job requires travel across key potato production areas in Southern and Western Finland. The employment relationship includes a 4-month probation period. Please send your application and CV with salary expectations by May 31, 2026, via email to satafood@satafood.net with the subject line "Expert for Potato Project." We will review applications throughout the process, and the position will be filled when a suitable candidate is found. For more information about the role and project, contact CEO Ulla Kommeri at 040 729 1416.
