Job Description
You will work as a family counselor in the Out-of-Home Care unit of the Southwest Finland Wellbeing Services County in Turku. Your role emphasizes intensive family work, supporting children, young people, and their families in challenging everyday situations. Your work is planned, goal-oriented, and focused on change, involving interaction and relationship-building with families and their networks. You will be part of a systemic team and collaborate closely with social workers and other professionals. Your responsibilities include child-centered parenting work, strengthening family resources, and supporting a safe growth environment. You will set goals together with the family, the team, and cooperation partners, and monitor their progress regularly. This is demanding expert work, primarily performed in pairs at families' homes and in their daily environments. You will receive support from your team, your partner, and the unit’s responsible family counselor. Your unit is located in central Turku, and you will have access to Varha’s cars for client work. You will work flexibly according to daily needs, during weekdays from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1-3 evening shifts per week. You will plan your working hours independently based on client situations. What we expect from you You have current experience working with families with children and the ability to meet families in various life situations. Your approach is resource- and customer-oriented, development-minded, and reflective. You work confidently both independently and in multidisciplinary collaboration. In your work, you will consider and promote the child’s best interests consistently. You have an understanding of change work with families and the skills to operate in challenging family situations. As a professional, you support families in their daily lives and help find solution-focused ways to ease and advance their situations. We value previous experience in family work within child protection and working with children and young people. Good cooperation and interaction skills, flexibility, and initiative support your success in this role. The position requires good oral and written Finnish language skills and satisfactory proficiency in Swedish. The qualification requirement is a relevant higher education degree in social and health care or a previous college-level degree. A social services degree (sosionomi AMK) is considered an advantage.
