Job Description
Applications are invited for two postdoctoral researchers in mathematical inverse problems at the University of Helsinki. The positions are funded by the ERC advanced grant project InversePDE - Geometric Methods in Inverse Problems for Partial Differential Equations and the Centre of Excellence on Inverse Modelling and Imaging, led by Professor Matti Lassas. The positions are for around two years, ending in November 2028, with a possible extension to a third year. Starting date may be between August 1, 2026, and January 1, 2027. The positions include a 6-month trial period. The project studies inverse problems for PDEs and geometric inverse problems, aiming to develop solution algorithms based on machine learning, neural networks, and manifold learning techniques. The ideal candidates are interested in inverse problems, neural networks, and machine learning methods for PDEs, or willing to expand their expertise into these fields. The salary is typically 3800-4000 euros/month, depending on qualifications and experience. The university offers comprehensive services including occupational health care, health insurance, sports facilities, and professional development opportunities. Applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, and references via the university’s recruitment system by June 15, 2026. For inquiries, contact Professor Matti Lassas at Matti.Lassas(at)helsinki.fi.
