Guard (Suomenlinna Prison) - Rikosseuraamuslaitos - Helsinki, Finland

Suomenlinna Prison is a 100-bed open prison for men, located in a unique maritime environment near Helsinki city center. Our staff, consisting of about 40 members, prepares inmates for release. As a guard, you ensure the smooth daily operation of the prison, contribute to the safety and activities of the facility, and enforce the prison's rules and daily schedule. You will use the Finnish Prison Service's customer information system and electronic monitoring system in your daily tasks. Your security duties include guarding, monitoring, and transportation tasks both inside and outside the prison, as well as implementing substance abuse monitoring. As a guard, you work in a social profession, and a significant part of your role involves interaction and guidance of inmates. Guidance tasks include managing inmate intake, conducting intake interviews, and providing thorough orientation to prison rules and procedures. You participate in a weekly multidisciplinary team that assigns new inmates to activities according to their sentence plan. You are responsible for keeping the living areas clean and ensuring furniture is in proper condition. Your role emphasizes active interaction with inmates and collaboration with the entire multidisciplinary work community of the institution. As a guard, you have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on clients and engage in socially significant work by influencing recidivism. The position requires a proactive, active, and independent work attitude. The guard's work involves shift work according to the working hours.
