Job Description
The Finnish-language basic education and upper secondary education services of the City of Porvoo are seeking a special education teacher for a fixed-term position from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. There are three (3) positions available. The placement is at Pääskytie School. The city acts as a responsible and stable employer, offering staff good opportunities for development and skill enhancement. Our modern and renovated schools support both learning and teaching, emphasizing community, participation, and cultural diversity—values that are reflected in daily work for both learners and staff. Pääskytie School provides education for grades 7-9. It is located on the western shore of Porvoo, amidst farmland. The school has approximately 600 students and 70 staff members working with them daily. The school's operating principle is to provide high-quality education, respect individual differences, and operate in a modern and safe learning environment. The school offers specialized physical education. The leadership team includes the principal, vice-principal, and two assistant principals. The entire staff actively participates in school development. In autumn 2026, Pääskytie School will have five special classes, three of which are currently seeking teachers. Special education teachers and classroom assistants form a team working together. The school has clear structures to support diverse learners, and its culture supports different learning styles and flexible learning pathways. You will receive strong support from student welfare professionals and principals. Applicants are expected to describe the following criteria in their application. Candidates for interviews will be selected based on applications. Advantages include experience in flexible planning, implementation, and assessment of teaching, good collaboration and interaction skills, experience in teamwork, proficiency in inclusive teaching, and experience in co-teaching and school community development. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (986/1998). In the absence of qualified applicants, non-qualified candidates may be considered. Original certificates proving qualifications must be presented at the interview. Salary is determined according to the municipal collective agreement for the education sector. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract as required by law (504/2002) concerning working with children. The position has a six-month probation period.
