Data Engineer

The Finnish Cancer Registry is seeking a Data Engineer for a permanent position to support Finnish cancer research. The primary responsibility is the management of the registry's data and data flows, as well as the maintenance and development of backend systems and software. The specific scope of the role will be further defined based on the selected candidate's expertise and interests. The ideal candidate can work both independently and as part of a team, possessing strong collaboration and communication skills to interact with various scientific disciplines and professional groups. Systematic precision and an understanding of the importance of documentation, planning, and implementation are essential. A desire for continuous professional development is expected. Requirements include at least four years of relevant work experience and expertise in data processing, databases (PostgreSQL), data pipelines (SQL and Python), and ETL/ELT processes and tools (e.g., Apache Hop). Basic knowledge of version control (e.g., Git) is required. Interest in utilizing AI for data pipeline development, analytics, or automation is valued, specifically with tools like Claude Code and Copilot. Adherence to data security and privacy practices is mandatory. A suitable technical degree and proficiency in Finnish and English are required.
