About the role

Do you want to help build a more active school day? The City of Äänekoski is seeking a Physical Activity Coordinator for a fixed-term project position from 1.9.2026 to 30.6.2027. Join us in implementing the "Äkilähtö - Active and Well-being School Communities of Äänekoski" project, which aims to increase the physical activity, well-being, and inclusion of children and young people, and to permanently develop the physical activity culture in schools. The purpose of the position is to implement the change to the Basic Education Act that entered into force on 1.8.2026, according to which basic education must promote a physically active lifestyle. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence the well-being of nearly 1,700 primary school-aged children and young people and to build new operating models together with schools, families, the wellbeing services county, organizations, and sports clubs. In your role, you will: coordinate "Active School" activities in Äänekoski's basic education develop physical activity counseling based on the Move! process support teachers in the adoption of physically active teaching methods organize sports and well-being events for schools develop recess and school-day physical activity together with students build cooperation with school health care, youth work, sports services, club operators, and the family center increase guardian participation in supporting children's physically active lifestyles monitor the achievement of project goals and report on the results. We are looking for someone who: is passionate about promoting the well-being of children and young people can network and collaborate with various stakeholders works independently and puts things into practice manages project coordination, development work, and project reporting possesses good interaction and communication skills. Qualifications and Preferred Expertise A higher education degree suitable for the position or a previous equivalent college-level degree, for example, in sports, education, health, or social sciences, is considered an advantage. Experience in working with children's and young people's physical activity, well-being work, teaching, or project work is considered an advantage for the applicant. The position follows the general working hours of 38 h 15 min. Salary and terms of employment are determined according to KVTES. The salary is according to KVTES (KVTES 2VAP6).
