About the role

We are looking for a calm, firm, and communicative school assistant for the period 10.8.–18.12.2026 to support a third-grade student with socio-emotional challenges and occasionally challenging behavior. In this role, you will support the student in various school day situations, assist with emotional regulation, guide learning, and ensure a safe daily environment for both the student and others. The work requires the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, knowledge of the autism spectrum, good situational awareness, and a genuine desire to support the student's schooling with perseverance. Good physical functional capacity is a basic requirement for success in this role. The school assistant's duties are to support the student's growth, development, and learning, as well as to assist the student to and from school transport before and after lessons. We expect the selected person to have flexibility, good cooperation and interaction skills, a genuine interest and courage to engage with our student, and a desire to help build a caring work community. Closest colleagues are the special education teacher and the class-specific school assistant. Jokivarren school is a cohesive primary school with approximately 500 students. In addition to general education classes, the school has 8 special education classes, four of which are organized by activity areas. The teaching and educational staff consists of about 45 teachers and 21 school assistants. Eligibility requirements for the position are a vocational qualification in education and guidance, a basic degree in healthcare/social services, or other education in the field of pedagogy. A person studying for corresponding degrees via an apprenticeship may also be hired. The employer's representative decides on the suitability of the degree. The principal of Jokivarren school makes the final selection. During the interview, the applicant must present original certificates proving eligibility. Remuneration is according to KVTES, and working hours are 28 h/week, which is approximately 73% of full-time. Salary payments are suspended during school holidays when annual leave days or active leave from the working time bank cannot be allocated. The position has a four-month probationary period. Before accepting the position, the selected person must present a criminal record extract in accordance with Act 504/2002.
