Metsähallitus is seeking two Wilderness Inspectors for permanent positions in Lapland. Locations are Enontekiö and Sodankylä/Savukoski. Possible start date is 1.10.2026. As a Wilderness Inspector, you are part of the national wilderness surveillance team that promotes and monitors the legality of the use of state areas under the management of Metsähallitus. Your task is to prevent and deter crimes related to wilderness activities, for which you can independently order a sanction in a narrow fine procedure. Important cooperation partners in your work include Metsähallitus's areas of responsibility, wilderness surveillance authorities, the Finnish Game Management Centre, game management associations, the Natural Resources Institute Finland, hunters, fishers and residents of the areas. Wilderness surveillance is one of the public administrative tasks prescribed by law for Metsähallitus. In addition to the general appointment criteria of the Constitution, the eligibility requirements for wilderness inspectors are prescribed in the Act on the Wilderness Surveillance of Metsähallitus (1157/2005). The eligibility requirement for the position of wilderness inspector is a basic police degree. Other education or a degree may be considered an advantage for the applicant. Success in the position requires solid experience in police activities and wilderness surveillance. Those selected for the positions are required to have good terrain movement skills and physical and mental readiness for field work in all seasons in changing conditions. We require up-to-date IT skills (Virve, POLO, Patja etc.) as well as the ability to work actively, proactively, independently, responsibly and effectively. We expect from you a deep and extensive knowledge of wilderness activities, the legislation concerning them and official activities, as well as a good knowledge of the overall pre-trial investigation process. We expect good cooperation and interaction skills as well as good knowledge and networks in the area of operation. Social media and communication skills and language skills may be considered an advantage for the applicant. Work includes travel and occasionally several days' absence from home. The working time format is cycle work, 114.45h/3 weeks. Remuneration is determined according to the remuneration system followed in Metsähallitus based on the demandingness of the work and personal performance. The job-related part of the salary for demand group 10 is 3,335.07 euros. In addition, working time supplements and a salary part based on personal performance, which is approx. 10% for a starting person, are paid. A probationary period of up to 6 months applies to the position. A personal security clearance may be carried out on the person selected for the position with the applicant's consent (Security Clearance Act 726/2014).
