About the role

The Finnish-speaking Taideyliopisto (University of Arts) Kuvataideakatemia invites applications for a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position as Lecturer in Painting, with a specialisation in painting materials theory, starting 1 January 2027 and ending 31 December 2027. The lecturer will teach painting theory and practice in a program where individualised instruction is emphasized, joining a living dialogue with the contemporary art field. The position includes guiding students’ artistic work and studies, participating in assessment and admissions, and pursuing own artistic or research work while staying active in current art and painting discourse and engaging with societal interaction. Teaching languages are Finnish and English; proficiency in Swedish is also required, with domestic Finnish or Swedish proficiency expected as well. Planning of teaching is done in collaboration with other staff within the teaching area. The role involves contributing to academic community and developing teaching, with involvement in university life and collaborative projects. The teaching duties include analysis of painting language, materials, and techniques, and an in-depth study of painting materials and their effect in and outside works. The position requires residence in Finland for the duration of the term. Salary is determined by the university salary ladder (level 6) and includes a personal performance-based supplement. The monthly salary at the start is approximately 4,300–4,700 euros. The position is full-time, fixed-term, based in Helsinki, Finland.
