About the role

Archivist (fixed-term) Suomen Ilmailumuseo seeks an archivist for a fixed-term contract for the period 1 October 2026 – 31 December 2028 or as agreed. The archivist’s main task is to organise and prepare the museum’s archive collection for the upcoming collection move. The candidate must have a suitable education and experience in museum or archive collection management, and the ability to organise, screen, catalogue and describe a wide variety of aviation-related written material. The collection includes documents as well as a large amount of technical manuals, microforms, posters and technical drawings. A good command of Finnish spoken and written language is required. Additional language skills and knowledge of technical materials and aviation history are considered an advantage. The job requires the ability to identify technical and historical material clusters and to prepare written summaries and catalogues. Experience photographing posters or drawings and digitisation is a plus. The archivist participates in information retrieval and historical background research related to museum material for preparation of the New Aviation Museum’s exhibition contents. The work is physical and includes moving and packing collection materials for transfers. ICT skills and the ability to work independently and systematically are required. The six-member collections team is led by the intendant, and supervision is provided by the amanuensis responsible for collections information and archives. Working hours are 36.25 hours per week and the Private Museums’ collective agreement is followed. The work is primarily performed at Suomen Ilmailumuseo in Vantaa Aviapolis.
