Our maternity unit treats both healthy and high-risk expectant mothers. Work is performed in a multidisciplinary team with strong professional skills, always respecting the patient. Our maternity unit is divided into two units: Luotsi and Aallokko. In Luotsi, we handle high-risk births, and for example, all very premature births from the entire ERVA area and the care of certain risk births are centrally located at the Women's Clinic nationwide. As the first university hospital, we have a separate low-risk maternity unit, Aallokko. We aim to concentrate the care of low-risk expectant mothers in this midwife-led unit. In addition, our maternity unit has three operating rooms and a family recovery room, which enables uninterrupted early contact between the mother and newborn after birth. If desired, you can train for the role of a family recovery midwife. Our maternity unit also handles late-pregnancy appointments, such as post-term visits and inductions of labor. Our midwives at the fear-of-childbirth clinic treat patients with birth anxiety through individual appointments, digital care paths, and small groups. Approximately 140 midwives work in the Women's Clinic maternity unit. All midwives operate in both maternity units: Luotsi and Aallokko. We have invested in close supervision. Three ward managers and two assistant ward managers work in our maternity unit. Every employee is assigned their own immediate supervisor at the start of employment.
