About the role

Antinkankaan school is seeking a SPECIAL CLASS TEACHER for a substitute position from August 18 to December 19, 2026. Do you want to work in a relaxed environment on the coast of the Bothnian Bay and in schools with sufficient resources for learning support and an encouraging, development-oriented work community? Welcome to Raahe! Raahe is the second largest city in North Ostrobothnia, drawing on its history of sailing ships and storytelling culture. We have a praised archipelago and the sea right at our doorstep. Our school serves approximately 370 students and is located near the center of Raahe. The school provides general education for grades 1-6 and classroom-based special education for grades 1-6. Additionally, the school provides education for students with disabilities for grades 1-9. Community and collaboration are important to us. Our school is a cozy and modern learning environment where everyone can be themselves and bring out their strengths. Our daily life is guided by shared humor, the joy of learning, international education, and the courage to experiment. We educate for life. We are looking for an enthusiastic and development-oriented special class teacher (special education for learning support) for a fixed-term substitution. In this role, you will be an enabler of learning and a discoverer of a child's strengths. We are looking for a person with a heart for the work and a strong pedagogical approach. Teaching obligation is 22 hours per week. Responsibilities include: - You will work in non-classroom-based special education according to the new support model. Flexibility and the ability to meet students based on their individual starting points are emphasized. You will be responsible for small-group teaching and individual guidance, as well as providing group-based support primarily for grades 4-6. - You will work closely with other teaching staff, assistants, and guardians. - You can create a learning situation where everyone has the peace and opportunity to succeed. Requirements for the position: - Evidence of implementing reforms: You have already demonstrated your ability to successfully put the August 2025 support reform into practice. You know how to target support effectively and smoothly. - Passion for flexible teaching arrangements: You master modern methods and can create individual paths that truly work in everyday life. - Modern co-planning: You are an active and self-directed team player. You do not wait for instructions but bring best practices and new ideas to the table. - Good social skills: You are capable of convincing and constructive cooperation with guardians, colleagues, and multidisciplinary networks. - Developmental approach: You want to be part of building an even better school and boldly try new ways of operating. Ability to see solutions instead of challenges and the skill to meet different learners with gentle firmness. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can concretely describe in their application how they have developed learning support processes since autumn 2025 and achieved measurable results in student progress. Eligibility Requirements Eligibility conditions are determined in accordance with the Decree on the Qualifications of Teaching Staff (986/1998). In the absence of eligible applicants, the fixed-term position may be filled by a person who does not hold the degree required by the eligibility condition. Original certificates proving eligibility must be presented during a possible interview. Employment Relationship Salary and terms of employment are determined by the Municipal Education Staff Collective Agreement (OVTES). The basic salary for teachers in the City of Raahe exceeds the table salary according to OVTES. The person selected must, within 30 days of notification of the selection decision, present an acceptable medical certificate and a criminal record extract as intended by the Act on the Checking of the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children (504/2002), which must not be older than six months. We use a probationary period in fixed-term employment relationships, which is at most half the duration of the employment. Employee Benefits Raahe has invested in employee well-being and offers many benefits, including: free swimming 1 time/week, discounts for Kuntokeidas Vesipekka services (bowling, badminton, etc.), free gym sessions, weekly exercise 1 h/week, sports, culture, and massage benefits, as well as holiday shares at affordable prices in Rokua and Vuokatti.
