About the role

HV Project Engineer – Freelance – On-Site. We are seeking a Project Engineer with experience in high-voltage substations to lead a team of engineers on a high-voltage substation project. Based in Belgium, Antwerp region. Construction-focused, site-based, with start in September. Requires electrical engineering background and HV project experience. Role covers delivery from early construction to commissioning and handover. Dutch and English language skills are non-negotiable. Responsibilities include full lifecycle ownership, contractor and supplier management, budget and schedule oversight, and regular reporting to senior stakeholders. Start: September. Location: Antwerp, Belgium. Duration: Until end of 2028 (12-month renewable contract). Essential Skills: project engineering leadership, HV project experience, EPC/large-scale construction delivery, multidisciplinary team management, budgets/schedules/risk, stakeholder engagement, Dutch language.

Job Details

Responsibilities

Full project lifecycle ownership, from early construction through to commissioning and handover.
Management of engineering, procurement, and construction contractors and key suppliers.
Oversight of project budget, schedule, and overall performance delivery.
Establishment of project structure, roles, and responsibilities across the delivery team.
Regular reporting to senior stakeholders and executive management.
Identification and mitigation of project risks and coordination of key project interfaces.

Requirements

Project engineering experience leading an engineering team.
Background in electrical engineering, preferably HV projects.
Proven experience delivering EPC or large-scale construction projects from inception through to completion.
Strong experience managing multidisciplinary teams including engineering, procurement, and construction.
Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and risk across complex project lifecycles.
Experience engaging with stakeholders at both site and senior management level.
Dutch language skills
