Full-time Sami-language hourly teacher We are seeking a full-time North Sami-language hourly teacher for Utsjokisuun comprehensive school for the period 1.8.2026-31.7.2027. Teaching may also be required in upper secondary school in natural sciences and other subjects, and the role may include acting as a resource teacher. Utsjokisuun school is a pleasant, small integrated comprehensive school (grades 0-9) with approximately 40 students. Instruction is provided in two languages, North Sami and Finnish. The teaching emphasizes the opportunity to grow into a bilingual adult. In addition to national goals, the curricula emphasize the cultural background of Finland's only Sami-majority municipality, the languages of the surrounding areas, and a close relationship with nature. The surrounding fells, waterways, and proximity to Norway provide wonderful settings for leisure activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, cycling, and skiing. Teacher qualification requirements are determined according to the Decree on the Qualification Requirements for Teaching Staff (986/1998). Permanent positions are filled with a 6-month probationary period and fixed-term positions with a 4-month probationary period. Those selected for positions must present an extract from the criminal record in accordance with Section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act within 30 days of notification of the selection decision. Proficiency in the Sami language is considered a special merit. The Municipality of Utsjoki pays a Sami language supplement of €125/month for oral proficiency and €150/month for oral and written proficiency.
