About the role

We are seeking a fixed-term Hobby Instructor for the Youth Work unit of the City of Kotka to work as a club activity instructor and in outreach hobby activities within the Finnish model for hobbies. The goal of the Finnish model for hobbies is to support the well-being of children and young people by providing as many children and youth in Kotka as possible with an enjoyable and free hobby in connection with the school day. Job Description Planning and instructing low-threshold hobby activities based on the wishes and needs of children and young people in connection with the school day as part of the Kotka Finnish model for hobbies project. The hobby instructor's work focuses on guiding and advising primary and secondary school students in Kotka in finding a hobby. The task is to support students in identifying their own interests and finding a suitable hobby from the existing range. Instructing hobby activities involves group guidance, individual counseling and guidance work, as well as informing and marketing the activities. Hobbies are seen in the Kotka Finnish model for hobbies as a broad field, including, among other things, arts, culture, sports, and nature hobbies. You can be an expert from any field. Hobby Instructor's duties: - Planning and instructing low-threshold hobby activities based on the wishes and needs of children and young people in connection with the school day. - Implementing regional outreach in Kotka schools, identifying students who do not have hobbies, and providing advice and support to students in finding an enjoyable hobby. - Marketing the activities, encouraging and assisting students in starting a hobby. - Other tasks assigned by the employer. The hobby instructor is required to have experience in working with and guiding children and young people. The selected person is expected to have education suitable for guiding children's and youth's hobby activities, e.g., from the fields of youth work, sports, education, or culture. The work requires interaction skills and an inspiring attitude to reach the target group. Additionally, the ability to use one's own car, knowledge of the Kotka school field, and comprehensive knowledge of the various hobby activity fields are considered an advantage. The work begins on September 1, 2026, or by agreement, and ends on May 31, 2027. The working hours are 30 hours/week. The person selected for the position must present a criminal record extract in accordance with Section 3 of the Act on Vetting Criminal Backgrounds of Persons Working with Children (504/2002). Salary and terms of employment are determined according to the general municipal civil servants' and employees' collective agreement. The weekly hours are 30 h (78.43% of full-time) and the salary will be proportional to the full salary of 2,354.45 euros/month. The probationary period is 4 months.
