Your job duties As a speech therapist, you will work at the Expert and Development Center (EUC), which is the Swedish-language expert unit for severe disability services in the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland. The expert unit is located in Kirjala, Pargas, and provides services for people of all ages with intellectual disabilities and/or other disabilities, their loved ones, and professionals in the field. The center also provides Swedish-language services and continuing education for other bilingual wellbeing services counties in Finland. In your work, you will encounter both children and adults with various intellectual disabilities and/or neuropsychiatric diagnoses. You will perform speech therapy assessments, evaluate language, speech, communication, as well as eating and swallowing abilities, and prepare Swedish-language statements for rehabilitation plans in the Southwest Finland region. Part of the work is also conducted in Finnish at the Finnish-language severe disability services unit in Paimio. The duties of the speech therapist also include providing continuing education and lectures for other professional groups. The tasks further include multidisciplinary client work at the Crisis, Research, and Rehabilitation Unit (KUR) and the special severe housing unit in Kojaniemi. Other bilingual wellbeing services counties in Southern Finland order speech therapy assessments from the center, which is why the job involves traveling. A company car is available for our experts for assessment trips. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team together with social workers, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a music therapist, a neuropsychiatric instructor, and a physician. What we expect from you We are looking for someone who wants to work with people with intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric diagnoses and who values both independent work and close cooperation with other professionals. You have good cooperation and interaction skills and can integrate your expertise into multidisciplinary work. Since the work involves client contacts in both Swedish and Finnish, you must be able to work in both languages. The eligibility requirement is the qualification of a licensed speech therapist in accordance with the Act on Health Care Professionals (559/1994). If no applicants meeting the eligibility and language requirements are found, a person with a foreign degree may be hired for an adaptation period. A person studying speech therapy may also be considered, provided that all clinical modules, including the long clinical internship, have been completed.
