About the role

Are you the next top expert for our team? We are looking for an expert in ship stability and weight calculations as a team leader for sales and design. Join us in designing and implementing the world's most advanced cruise ships and leave your mark on shipbuilding history! Meyer Turku offers you an encouraging workplace where you can develop and pursue your own career. What does the role of ship stability and weight expert team leader involve? You will act as the direct supervisor for the experts of the Stability and Weight team of Naval Architecture and be part of the ship project sales organization. Ship stability calculation is a critical and challenging part of cruise ship design. A ship is a floating object, so it is important from the start to define weight as well as watertightness and stability rule requirements, monitor and guide the development of the design, and finally ensure the ship is built meeting the requirements. In your position, you will design and ensure the implementation of the ship's basic naval architectural properties related to stability. You will participate in the development of ship concepts, assist the project organization in the implementation of new construction projects, and be responsible for, among other things, the ship's inclination test. Stability and weight are a central part of ship design. In the work, you get to consider the effect of structures, different systems, equipment, and materials in cooperation with other designers, system managers, and production. As a ship stability and weight expert / theoretical engineer: - You design the implementation of loading and stability properties of new ship concepts, including damage stability. - You negotiate with the shipyard's customers and classification societies regarding the ship project's technology and participate in the preparation of technical tender material. - You evaluate and predict the ship's weight in different design phases. - In the new construction phase, you make naval architectural calculations and produce the necessary design and delivery documentation, e.g., loading and damage stability manuals. - You follow the development of the field and rules and develop methods and operating procedures. - You work in cooperation with other experts and are part of the stability and weight team. As the team leader: - You are responsible for the team's resourcing and competence development. - You develop methods and design tools. - You support and help team members to succeed together. What do we expect from you? We expect suitable technical education (M.Sc. Tech/Engineer) as well as knowledge and experience in ship stability and weight calculations. Proficiency in NAPA software and CAD tools (e.g., Autocad) is an advantage. Knowledge of naval architecture and systems is also an advantage. To succeed in the position, you need curiosity and systematicity, good oral and written English language skills, and good cooperation and organizational skills. Previous experience in the field and acting as a supervisor are considered an advantage. Please note that we require a passed drug test and a health check confirming suitability for the duties of the employment relationship. Why come work for us? You get to work at the top of shipbuilding. The world's most advanced cruise ships are designed and built at the Meyer Turku shipyard. We are known for our high-tech expertise, multidisciplinary production, and innovative solutions that move the entire shipbuilding industry forward. Our order book extends far into the future. There are over 450 professions at our shipyard, and we are all shipbuilders – everyone's contribution is needed to achieve the common goal. You get a tailwind for your career. We encourage our employees to develop, learn new things, and seize opportunities. We enable long careers: new, interesting job tasks are often found within our own organization. Employment benefits are in place. The shipyard's own occupational health clinic offers versatile services, help, and support throughout your career.
