Doctoral Researcher position within the Aerosol and Cloud Particle Optics group, part of the Aerosol Physics Laboratory at Tampere University. The CRYSTAL project uses advanced 3D nano-printing in atmospheric science, exploring how ice crystal surface roughness affects optical scattering and cirrus-cloud representations in climate models. Responsibilities include planning and conducting optical characterization of nano-printed surfaces, analyzing polarization-resolved BRDF measurements, developing data-processing and quality-control routines, and testing surface-scattering descriptions such as Harvey-Shack theory and ABg-type parameterizations. The project aims to improve interpretation of cirrus-cloud observations from next-generation satellites. Requirements: Master’s degree in experimental physics, optics, photonics, atmospheric science or related field by start date; hands-on experience with optical or precision laboratory measurements; programming and data-analysis skills (Python, MATLAB); English proficiency; Finnish not required.
