Join the shipbuilders – 160 years of expertise in the center of Helsinki. We are Helsinki Shipyard – a shipyard that has designed, built and delivered customized, high-quality passenger ships and icebreakers for extreme conditions since 1865. In 2025, we celebrate our 160th anniversary and are proud to continue our story in the heart of Helsinki, at the Hietalahti shipyard. With us, shipbuilding is done from start to finish under one roof – from design and hull fabrication to outfitting, interior design and commissioning. This makes us a unique workplace: you see your own handiwork as part of the whole and can follow how a huge ship rises in the shipyard hall step by step. Our specialty is arctic vessels, but we build everything from superyachts to multi-purpose icebreakers. In fact, we have produced about 50% of the world's icebreakers. We are looking for new design coordinators for hull structures design. The design coordinator works in our hull design team, where the main area of responsibility is the project coordination of the ship's structural design. In addition, the position involves versatile design tasks. The design coordinator is responsible for the technical specification of their part of the ship, ensuring that the result is both economically efficient and compliant with all relevant regulations. The role is an essential part of our project organization, acting as an active contact person between different design groups and as a link between production, the design team and the external network. The work emphasizes the management of wholes and the ability to pick out essential information from complex connections. What kind of experts are we looking for? We are looking for experts with previous experience in coordinating structural design, preferably from the shipbuilding industry or a similarly demanding industry. The position requires the ability to perceive broad wholes and critically analyze information to support successful decision-making. A suitable educational background provides good capabilities for coordination work. The working environment is international, so we require fluent English skills. The work is mainly teamwork as part of the shipyard's extensive and multidisciplinary design organization, so we require good interaction and teamwork skills. What do we offer you? A position at a shipyard where the world's most demanding ships are built. The opportunity to see and learn the entire shipbuilding process from start to finish. Work that combines technology, internationality and a tangible result – finished ships on the water. You can work at the Helsinki, Turku or Pori offices, flexibly also remotely. Support from a professional team and the opportunity to develop your own expertise in top-class projects. Interested? Leave your open application letter and CV through our recruitment system. We review open applications regularly and will contact you when positions matching your expertise open up. We only consider applications submitted through our system. As part of the selection process, selected persons will undergo a health check, which also includes a drug test. In some positions, a security clearance may also be required.
