The BioInterfaces group at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences uses molecular dynamics simulations to tackle questions related to biomolecules and membranes. The group is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to coordinate its research activity in membrane proteins and scramblases. The project includes high-throughput simulations, protein design, and development of an online database, with collaboration from experimental groups. The candidate will coordinate daily work, design and run simulations, supervise a PhD student, prepare manuscripts, and present results. A PhD student will also be hired to work exclusively on the project. The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System, with a typical starting salary around 4000 EUR/month. Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily work on the project
- Design, perform and analyse simulations (high-throughput coarse-grained and atomistic MD, biasing techniques, constant-pH simulations, protein design, online database development)
- Communicate with collaborators
- Supervise the doctoral researcher working on the project
- Prepare manuscripts for publication
- Disseminate findings at meetings and conferences
- A doctoral researcher (PhD student) with complementary skillset will be hired to work exclusively on the project
Requirements
- PhD degree in physics, chemistry, biosciences or related subject area
- solid background in molecular dynamics simulations (e.g., GROMACS)
- basic programming knowledge (e.g., Python)
- ability to develop simulation or analysis tools, design de novo proteins, or apply machine learning to simulation data
- ability to work independently, supervise students, communicate with collaborators, and contribute to teaching
- fluency in English (spoken and written)
- international experience and networks are appreciated
