Chief Physician - Line Director

The HUS Children and Adolescents Diseases business unit invites applications for the position of Chief Physician in Pediatric Surgery. The role includes line director responsibilities for pediatric surgery. The line operates at the New Children's Hospital and Hyvinkää Hospital, as well as regional areas in Kymenlaakso, Päijät-Häme, and South Karelia. The New Children’s Hospital performs about 7,000 surgeries annually across multiple subspecialties, with pediatric surgery represented by a chief-physician-led team in General Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology, Pediatric Urology, and Cardiovascular Surgery, with transfusion surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, otology, and ophthalmology also providing pediatric surgical care. The pediatric surgery obligations include statutory nationwide responsibilities such as surgery for congenital heart defects and pediatric transplants, requiring national cooperation with other university hospitals and international outreach. The position entails broad development of pediatric subspecialties’ care for rare diseases, monitoring international advances, and implementing new techniques, with support for research and teaching in its subspecialties. Successful performance requires leadership and change-management experience, flexibility, collaboration skills, and a strong network-oriented work style across surgical disciplines and with neurology and pediatric subspecialties. The appointment can begin as early as 14 September 2026. The position’s salary is in accordance with the physician agreement, plus any locally agreed supplements.
