The Many-Body Theory group is looking for a doctoral researcher to work on the computational study of quantum nuclear effects in solids. The project is well-funded as part of the Theory Program of the Helsinki Institute of Physics. The focus of the project is to study quantum nuclear effects on various properties of solids by developing an in-house program package and conducting computations on realistic solids using supercomputer resources provided by CSC. Requirements: Candidates must hold an internationally recognized masters degree in physics, mathematics, computer science or chemistry, ideally in the field of computational condensed matter physics with strong programming background. If the degree has not yet been completed, applicants must complete their degree during the recruitment period. Excellent written and spoken English skills are essential. Good knowledge of the programming language Python is mandatory. Expertise in program development, and experience with the Quantum ESPRESSO program package are advantageous. The candidate should also enjoy working in an international, collaborative research group, and be willing to help supervise Bachelor’s students, as well as participate in teaching tasks. We offer: The Doctoral Researcher position will be offered for three years and will be preferably filled in the fall of 2026 with some flexibility in the starting date. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary of Doctoral Researcher is around 3000 EUR/month.
