Social Worker

We are seeking a social worker for a permanent official position starting October 1, 2026, in the service needs assessment team of the disability social work service unit within the family and disability social work services of the Kainuu Wellbeing Services County. The role of a social worker in disability social work is a versatile and interesting official position. Our staff possesses diverse expertise, and we are looking for your contribution to strengthen our team! Disability social work provides services in accordance with the Act on Disability Services and its decree, the Act on Support for Informal Care, the Family Care Act, and the Act on Special Care for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. Social workers and social guides apply these laws in their official duties. The position includes client work and decision-making, assessment, networking, and consulting work. We operate using a team-based model. The teams are: the assessment team, the children and youth team, the home-based services team, and the supported housing team. The duties of the social worker being recruited are focused on the assessment team, which processes applications for disability services and informal care support for new clients, performs service need assessments, and makes decisions. Cooperation is carried out smoothly within the teams and with other partners. We are looking for a flexible and collaborative person who adapts quickly to changing situations and tasks. We require the ability for self-directed work as well as good skills for pair, team, and network work. The work involves travel, so the position requires a Class B driver's license and, if necessary, the possibility of using one's own car. The employer provides leasing shared cars for official business and official travel. We offer the possibility of partial remote work. We support employees who have achieved the qualifications of a temporary social worker by granting paid leave during the year to complete social work studies. To facilitate graduation, the employer grants two paid weeks of leave at the final stage of writing the pro gradu thesis. Additionally, we strive to enable the progress of studies by flexibly granting vacation and working-time leave days to the student. We also provide support and guidance as needed in brainstorming the thesis topic and during its various implementation phases. The eligibility requirement is the qualification of a social worker according to the Act on Social Care Professionals (817/2015, Sections 3, 7, and 32) (a higher education degree that includes or is supplemented by major studies or university studies equivalent to a major in social work). If no applicants with social worker qualifications are found, a person entitled to act temporarily in the duties of a licensed social care professional may be appointed. A person studying for the social work profession who has successfully completed basic and intermediate social work studies and practical training may act temporarily for a maximum of one year, as well as a person who has completed a suitable university degree in social sciences or a university of applied sciences degree in social services and health, which included or was supplemented by successfully completed basic and intermediate social work studies and practical training, or who has sufficient practical experience and professional skill in addition to a suitable university degree in social sciences or a university of applied sciences degree in social services and health and basic and intermediate social work studies (Act on Social Care Professionals, Section 12). Knowledge of the laws and decrees defining social welfare and relevant work experience are considered an advantage.
