The Leading Expert works in the ministry's steering unit. The role of the Leading Expert is to be responsible for the strategic promotion of the international relations of the ministry and its top management. The duties of the Leading Expert include coordinating international activities regarding the ministry's policy actions in accordance with the strategic objective guidelines of the administrative sector. Together with substance units and staffs, the Leading Expert is responsible for the content planning of international visits and trips for ministers, state secretaries, and the permanent secretary, as well as the preparation of management meetings. The position includes primary responsibility for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment's (TEM) Team Finland cooperation and the coordination of export promotion towards the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the business community. Additionally, the role involves participating in the development of procedures and cooperation for the ministry's internal international activities together with substance units.
