The Southwest Finland Criminal Sanctions Centre is responsible for the implementation of prison sentences and community sanctions in the regions of Varsinais-Suomi and Satakunta. Operations cover both the secure and lawful execution of sentences and goal-oriented rehabilitative work. The core of the work is supporting clients toward a crime-free lifestyle. The centre includes the prisons of Turku, Käyrä, Huittinen, and Köyliö, as well as the Southwest Finland Community Sanctions Office. The units form a close cooperation network where work during imprisonment and sanctions carried out in the community are integrated according to the client's individual service path. The overall approach emphasizes multidisciplinary work, planned client work, and effective rehabilitative and social interventions. A key objective of the Criminal Sanctions Centre is to reduce recidivism and increase public safety. This is promoted by strengthening clients' capacities to integrate into society. Work is conducted in close cooperation with a wide range of authorities and networks, including social and health care, municipalities, organizations, and other key actors. The social worker position being recruited is at Turku Prison. Turku Prison is a 255-capacity closed prison housing prisoners ranging from first-time offenders to those with life sentences, as well as fine and remand prisoners. The prison is located approximately 8 km from Turku city centre in the Saramäki district. In addition to security, Turku Prison focuses on rehabilitative activities for prisoners, including substance abuse rehabilitation and various courses to motivate a crime-free life. Additionally, work activities and education are organized for prisoners. Approximately 195 people from different professional groups work in the multidisciplinary community of Turku Prison. Performing the duties requires close cooperation with different units of the criminal sanctions centre's region (community sanctions office and prisons) and travel between sites. Client work is conducted flexibly both face-to-face and via remote connections. As a social worker, you will act as a social care expert and perform meaningful and impactful work with criminal sanctions clients in need of special support. Your goal is to increase their capacity for a crime-free lifestyle by promoting life management and social integration during and after the sentence. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your duties include demanding client work and guiding clients to services according to their needs, cooperating with various authorities, networks, and partners across unit boundaries, and consulting other staff on social work issues and challenging client situations. Additionally, your duties include preparing social care permits and applications, drafting expert statements, and structural social work. Your primary focus will be on special groups, such as young people, women, and criminal sanctions clients with foreign backgrounds. The social worker has special responsibility for the processing of social care information.
