About the role

We are looking for you, who are motivated to perform the duties of a school assistant in a classroom for demanding special support, to join our community-oriented and professional Kaisaniemi team. As a school assistant, your goal is to guide and support the learner in different stages of the school attendance and learning process. Working with us, your duties include guiding special needs students during the school day and the afternoon club. You will act as a guide for students on the autism spectrum. The working day includes assisting in dining, guiding activities related to the everyday school day, using various communication tools, toilet assistance, supervising outdoor activities, etc. We value strong teamwork skills and the use of different communication methods. At Kaisaniemi School, arts, languages, and culture flourish. Kaisaniemi School is a place for holistic learning, where body and mind are combined in studying. Your working hours as a school assistant are 38 h 15 min per week. Flat salary €2,515.05/month, when the working time is 38.25 h/week. In addition, the salary includes possible additions according to KVTES. The flat salary may change according to expertise and level of responsibility. School assistants are employed by the City of Helsinki's Education Division. The place of work is determined based on the school assistant resources available at the time and may change annually. During school holidays, school assistants and special school assistants work in the centralized holiday activities for children with intellectual disabilities and autism. During holidays, the place of work may be another City of Helsinki school. Summer vacation is mainly timed for the closure of the holiday activities. What does the City of Helsinki offer you? In addition, the position requires good oral and written skills in Finnish. The person selected for the position must provide a criminal record extract concerning those working with children as intended by the Act on the Checking of the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children (504/2002). In addition, the position requires guidance experience with children on the autism spectrum. We consider experience working in classrooms for demanding special support as an advantage.
