The MariaDB Remote DBA team handles customer deployments globally, delivering expert-level Remote DBA services including monitoring, performance improvements, design of new architectures, upgrades, backups, recoveries, and related DBA work. The role requires self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously in a distributed, virtual environment. Responsibilities include performing DBA activities remotely, automating tasks, setting up monitoring, health checks and reports, contributing to community blogs, helping build tools, and ensuring customer SLAs. The position may require night/weekend shifts and international travel. Qualifications include experience with MariaDB/MySQL, SQL query writing and optimization, database design/administration, knowledge of HA environments, strong troubleshooting, English communication, and experience with columnar databases and proxying. Remote Bulgaria location with Sofia hybrid option; shift patterns Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday preferred.

Responsibilities
- Perform DBA activities remotely with customers around the world
- Automate various DBA tasks
- Set up monitoring and other activities on customer servers
- Perform periodic health checks and reports on customer systems
- Participate in the community by blogging and other social media
- Help the MariaDB team build tools and enhancements around MariaDB
- Help improve practices and common methodologies for the Remote DBA team
- Ability to be on call as needed to guarantee customer SLAs
- Manage SkySQL customers across cloud environments
- Provide coverage during designated schedule
- Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs shift preferred
- Ability to travel internationally for company-related meetings
Requirements
- Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and surrounding tools
- Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization
- Knowledge of database design, administration, development or architecture
- Understanding of various high availability environments and technologies
- Excellent written and spoken English communication
- Experience with some sort of columnar database platform
- Previous usage of database proxying technology
