Librarian

Do you want to promote active citizenship, democracy and freedom of expression? We are seeking a development-minded and hands-on librarian for Kajaani City Library for a permanent position to start on 1 October 2026 or by agreement. The librarian develops, ideates and implements the library's democracy work, promotes social and cultural dialogue, and designs and carries out adult and secondary school group visits. The role includes customer service and collection work, as well as promoting reading and literacy, increasing residents’ participation, and participating in event production, digital tutoring and communications tasks. A suitable higher education degree including or in addition to at least 35 ECTS credits in library and information science is required. Good presentation, communication and cooperation skills are prerequisites for smooth work. We value initiative, courage in ideation and immersion, customer-service orientation, experience in democracy work and event production, flexibility and strong IT skills. We offer a diverse job where you can actively develop new practices and services. Salary and terms follow KVTES; task-specific salary is in accordance with pay grade 2KIR42B1 of 3081.51 €/month. Regular evening and weekend work is included. Weekly work time is 36 hours 15 minutes. Six-month probation applies. Applicants must present a health certificate before starting.
