Do you want to be part of leading and developing pediatric surgical care in Finland's most extensive and versatile environment? HUS Children's and Adolescents' Diseases result unit is seeking a Chief Physician of Pediatric Surgery. The position includes the role of Line Manager of Pediatric Surgery. The pediatric surgery line operates at the New Children's Hospital and Hyvinkää Hospital, as well as in the university hospital (YTA) areas of Kymenlaakso, Päijät-Häme, and South Karelia. At the HUS New Children's Hospital, approximately 7,000 surgeries are performed annually for patients in various specialty care areas. The pediatric surgery line includes general pediatric surgery, pediatric orthopedics and traumatology, pediatric urology, cardiac and vascular surgery, and transplantation surgery as a special area of expertise, all led by ward chief physicians. Additionally, other sectors provide pediatric surgical care in plastic surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology at the New Children's Hospital. HUS pediatric surgery is responsible for national statutory medical duties, such as the surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in children and pediatric organ transplants. Therefore, in addition to local responsibilities, the Chief Physician's role involves national cooperation with other university children's clinics as well as an international dimension. Due to its status as a national reference center, the role includes the development of broad-based pediatric procedural fields and the treatment of rare diseases, as well as an active approach to monitoring international developments in the field and implementing new applications and treatment methods. The Line Manager also supports research and teaching in their specialty areas. Successful performance of the Line Manager's duties requires experience in management and operational development, as well as flexibility and cooperation skills. The selection process emphasizes the ability to develop the operations and processes of the line in conjunction with other functions of the result unit, as well as expertise in people management and collaboration. The work emphasizes network-based collaboration not only across surgical specialty boundaries but also with neurology and pediatric specialties. The position begins no earlier than September 14, 2026. The position-specific salary is according to the physician's agreement, with possible locally negotiated supplements. Eligibility requirements Specialist qualification in a suitable specialty and experience in administrative or management positions in the field, and additionally a licensed physician or a permit to act in physician duties. All surgical specialties are considered suitable. We also require experience working in tertiary pediatric specialized care. Language requirements: good oral and written skills in Finnish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Swedish, or good oral and written skills in Swedish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Finnish. We require vaccination protection in accordance with the Communicable Diseases Act for those working in customer and patient areas, and a health statement regarding pulmonary tuberculosis for those working in healthcare units. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract required for those working with children in accordance with Section 6, Subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act (770/1993).
