Specialist Physician

We are seeking two specialist physicians for permanent positions at the Spinal Cord Injury Center within the Rehabilitation Line of HUS Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation (SISU). Start date October 1, 2026, or by agreement. The Rehabilitation Line of the HUS Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation division includes Physiatry clinics, the Spinal Cord Injury Center, and the Prolonged Symptoms Rehabilitation Unit. The Rehabilitation Line also provides physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to various HUS divisions. The Rehabilitation Line collaborates with the HUS Assistive Device Center and several HUS specialties in patient diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation planning. Spinal Cord Injury Center The Spinal Cord Injury Center acts as a coordinating unit for the health status, treatment, and rehabilitation of people with after-effects caused by spinal cord injuries. The center consists of the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic and the Intensive Rehabilitation Ward. The service area comprises HUS, the wellbeing services counties of the HUS Southern Finland cooperation area, and Helsinki. The Intensive Rehabilitation Ward primarily serves subacute rehabilitation for spinal cord injured patients after the acute phase, but it can also implement multidisciplinary rehabilitation for other patients. Patients arrive for continued rehabilitation directly from various units within our area of responsibility, mainly from the trauma hospital, corresponding units in other hospital districts, or from wellbeing services county wards. The Spinal Cord Injury Clinic operates with a multidisciplinary team and treats individuals over 16 years of age who have suffered a spinal cord injury due to traumatic, disease-related, or congenital causes. HUS Spinal Cord Injury Center is currently located on Nordenskiöldinkatu in Helsinki, but will move to Jorvi Hospital in Espoo starting October 1, 2026. Jorvi's versatile hospital environment offers extensive specialty and diagnostic services for this activity. The Spinal Cord Injury Center has an important research, development, and teaching mission. The unit follows international research on spinal cord injuries and implements evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation methods suitable for the Finnish healthcare system. The unit is networked nationally and internationally. Additionally, the unit has a broad educational role (medical and specialist physician training, training for other healthcare personnel). The specialist physician will work at the Spinal Cord Injury Center's Intensive Rehabilitation Ward and the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic. The job description covers specialist physician duties: clinic and ward activities, acting as a consultant, guiding specialists-in-training, and processing referrals. If a physiatrist is selected, they will have the opportunity to participate in patient work at the physiatry clinics. What we hope for from you? Eligibility requirements Specialist physician qualification in a suitable specialty and additionally a licensed physician or permission to act in physician duties. Suitable specialties for the position are: physiatry, neurology, pediatric neurology, internal medicine, general medicine, orthopedics, and neurosurgery. Language requirements: good oral and written skills in Finnish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Swedish, or good oral and written skills in Swedish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Finnish. We require vaccination protection according to the Communicable Diseases Act for those working in customer and patient areas, and a health certificate regarding pulmonary tuberculosis for those working in healthcare units.
