Job Description

Are you an expert in customer and patient rights who wants to do meaningful work related to customer and patient legal protection and safety? We are seeking a social and patient ombudsman to strengthen the customer safety team’s expert activities – could that be you? At the Western Uusimaa welfare area, you will work in the administration’s quality and customer safety unit within the customer safety team. The unit supports the entire organization in developing customer and patient safety and quality. In this role, you will have a broad impact on the realization of customers’ and patients’ rights and bring a customer perspective to service development. As a social and patient ombudsman, you will act in an expert role as an advocate for customers’ and patients’ rights, in accordance with the law (Act on Social and Patient Ombudsmen 739/2023). The role is primarily an expert position focused on customer work, with no administrative decision-making involved. Your tasks include: - Advising customers and patients on their rights (Patient Act 785/1992, Customer Act 812/2000, Early Childhood Education Act 540/2018) - Assisting with the preparation of complaints if needed - Advising on the use of legal remedies (e.g., complaints, rectification requests, appeals, damages claims) - Monitoring developments in customers’ and patients’ rights and status, collecting related information, and participating in annual reports - Informing and promoting the realization of customers’ and patients’ rights - Collaborating with service providers, authorities, and stakeholders You will succeed if you have: - Good knowledge of social and health care and early childhood education service systems and legislation - Ability to interact professionally and empathetically with customers and patients in various situations - Clear communication and interaction skills, presentation skills, and fluent customer service skills in Finnish and Swedish - Readiness for independent work and self-planning - Good teamwork skills, a development-oriented work attitude, and interest in customer safety work. Qualifications: Suitable higher university degree and familiarity with the field (Act on Social and Patient Ombudsmen 739/2023). Terms of employment are governed by the SOTE agreement. The trial period is six months. A drug test according to the Western Uusimaa welfare area’s substance abuse policy may be required from selected candidates.
