Helsinki Adult Education Institute’s Junior School seeks a full-time Finnish language (S2) teacher for adult basic education, for an open-ended permanent contract. The school is one of the largest providers of adult basic education in Finland. Degree-seeking students in the junior school typically exceed 400 and staff about 40. Adult basic education is primarily delivered in group settings within the basic school, and the teaching is daytime. All current basic education students are adult immigrants. We require from the new teacher: a higher university degree; qualification as a subject teacher; readiness to teach Finnish (S2 and literature) in the early and late stages of adult basic education; experience teaching immigrants; language-aware teaching methods; good teamwork and interaction skills; enthusiasm to act as a group supervisor responsible for administrative and other matters for a ca. 20-student group. An advantage is the ability to teach other adult basic education subjects and general experience with working with immigrants. In addition to teaching and group supervision, the new teacher will participate in development and planning activities, unit meetings and trainings as well as marketing activities. The employment is based on the private education sector collective agreement, using the sub-agreement for folk high schools with annual hours. Interviews occur in weeks 35-36, orientation in week 37, and work starts Monday 14 September. If you are interested, send a one-page application and CV to tobias.hoch-enriquez@helao.fi. You may request further information from the same address. Application deadline is Wednesday 26 August 2026 at 23:59. helao.fi/peruskoulu/
