About the role

We are looking for a new colleague for the home care physicians unit for a permanent official relationship. The home care physicians unit has operated for 20 years as part of the services for elderly Helsinki residents. Home care physicians treat about 40 percent of Helsinki's home care patients, as well as the physician work of the assessment and rehabilitation wards of senior centers. The physician situation is good, but in order to take more patients into our care from home care, we are looking for reinforcement for our team. In home care, home care physicians treat patients who, for example, due to memory disease or weakness of mobility, are unable to visit the health center. A workday in home care consists of home visits with a nurse and consultations with nurses. Usually, home visits are made in the mornings and consultations with nurses are answered in the afternoons. On average, there are two home visits per day. Periodic controls are made for patients annually, new patients are met on first visits and patients are also met if necessary if a need for a visit emerges in consultations. The goal of the home care physician's work is to prevent the deterioration of functional capacity and enable living at home. In addition, collaborating parties are other nurses, home care social guides, physiotherapists, wound care nurses and pharmacists as well as memory coordinators. Some physicians work part of the week in the assessment and rehabilitation wards of senior centers, where patients come for continued rehabilitation after hospital care or from home care for rehabilitation if outpatient rehabilitation is not sufficient or if symptom clarification or, for example, medication titration requires ward conditions. Patient treatment times in wards vary from a few weeks to several months. The work of a home care physician is suitable for a general practitioner or a geriatrician interested in the care of the elderly, several of whom work in the unit. You are also very warmly welcome to our team as a physician in specialization. Our workstations are located in different parts of Helsinki. Your work week consists of home care team days and rehabilitation ward work and we will take your wishes into account in the choice of work area. The work is mobile and appropriately independent, and it is possible to influence the content of the workday. At the same time, we want to ensure that you are not left alone and always receive consultation support according to your needs. We meet as a whole unit regularly in physician meetings. Training is available weekly and it is possible to attend external training. The work is flexible daytime work in terms of schedule, which can be partially done remotely and part-time work is possible. In clinical work, the unit's long-term group of physicians appreciate the unhurried meeting of patients, holistic assessment, practicality, versatility and moving to home visits during the workday. You are also very warmly welcome to our team as a physician specializing in different fields or in the YEK phase - for a shorter or longer period. Regarding a fixed-term work period, please contact the chief physician directly. Our unit's geriatricians act as supervisors for those specializing. In addition to high-quality guidance, you will get a unique view of physician work done at home. In addition to those specializing in geriatrics, physicians specializing in general medicine and other conservative fields in particular receive important experience from us in the care of the elderly. Those specializing in geriatrics can complete EPA1, 3, 4 and 5 with us. For those specializing in general medicine, we offer a geriatrics period. Because life is not just work, we also take care of the balance between work and leisure. You will have access to the Epassi Flex package including sports, culture, commuting and wellbeing benefits. A benefit of up to 550 euros per calendar year can be obtained. The available balance is determined based on the length of your employment relationship. In addition, a lunch benefit is available. As a staff benefit, you will also have access to a city bike and you can, if you wish, visit the city employees' own recreation island. Eligibility requirements: Physician licensed in Finland, right to practice the medical profession independently. Completed YEK phase or equivalent work experience history. Language skill requirements are good oral and written skills in Finnish and satisfactory oral skills in Swedish. The person selected for the position must present an occupational health assessment of their ability to perform the duties belonging to the position. The position requires vaccination protection according to Section 48 of the Communicable Diseases Act and a tuberculosis investigation according to Section 55 of the Communicable Diseases Act. Specialist rights (general medicine or geriatrics) and experience of working with the elderly in home care and rehabilitation wards are considered an advantage. Self-direction and initiative, ability to operate in multidisciplinary teams, and good communication skills are also considered an advantage.
